Real Estate for First Responders in Mebane, Burlington, Graham, Hillsborough, Durham, and Beyond
I Worked the Shifts. I Know What Your Move Has to Work Around.

"Before I sold a single house, I spent ten years in law enforcement. I know what rotating shifts, holdovers, and on-call weekends do to a schedule, and to a family. When you work with me, you get an agent who already understands your world and builds the process around it."
David Bermel, Real Estate Broker and Realtor
Before becoming a real estate broker, I served as a law enforcement officer and detective in Durham County for about ten years. That career meant nights, weekends, holidays, and schedules that could change on short notice. I know how hard it is to plan anything around that, let alone a home purchase.

Buying or selling a home is stressful for anyone. For police officers, deputies, firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and corrections officers, it comes with added pressure: limited windows for showings, privacy concerns about where you live, and moves tied to a new agency, a promotion, or retirement. I built this part of my business for the people I used to work alongside.
How I Work With First Responders
Showings and Meetings That Fit Your Rotation
Day shift, night shift, 24 on and 48 off, or a schedule that rotates every few weeks, I plan around it. Early mornings after a night shift, late evenings, and weekends all work for me. If you can only get out on your days off, we make those days count.
Communication That Does Not Depend on Business Hours
I handle every transaction personally. There is no assistant or transaction coordinator passing messages along. You can text me, and I will keep you updated in a way that works when you are on duty and cannot take a call.
Privacy and Discretion
Many officers and their families prefer to keep their home address and personal details out of public view. I understand why, and I handle your information, your listing, and your showings with that in mind. If you are selling, we can talk through how your home is marketed and what shows up in photos and listing details.
Relocating for a New Agency or Assignment
Taking a job with a new department or moving closer to your station changes what you need from a home. I know the commute patterns across Alamance, Orange, Durham, Person, and Granville counties, and I regularly help buyers looking toward Chapel Hill and Raleigh as well. Mebane sits between Durham and Burlington on I-40/85, which makes it a common landing spot for first responders who work in either direction.
Selling at Retirement or After a Transfer
Whether you are retiring after a full career, downsizing, or selling because you have been transferred, I help you price the home correctly, prepare it for market, and keep the sale on a timeline that fits your next step.
A Background Built for This Work
I spent ten years as a law enforcement officer and detective in Durham County before moving into real estate. That career taught me to stay calm under pressure, notice details other people miss, and communicate clearly with people on difficult days. Those same skills matter when you are negotiating a purchase, working through inspections, or keeping a closing on track.
My first responder referral network grew out of those years, and many of the people I work with today come through it. When you work with me, you are working with someone who understands the job and respects the people who do it.

A Thank You for Your Service
First responders who list their home with me receive a reduced listing fee. It is my way of giving back to the people I served alongside, and it does not change anything about the work. You get the same pricing strategy, marketing, negotiation, and personal attention every one of my sellers gets. Ask me about the details when we talk.
Frequently Asked Questions for First Responders
Can you work around a 24/48 or rotating schedule?
Yes. I schedule showings, meetings, and signings around your shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Do you offer a discount for first responders?
Yes. First responders who list with me receive a reduced listing fee. The service stays exactly the same. The fee is simply a thank you, and I am happy to walk through the details in person.
What is the Good Neighbor Next Door program?
It is a HUD program that lets eligible law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, and teachers buy certain HUD homes in revitalization areas at 50 percent off list price, in exchange for living in the home for three years.
Is Mebane a good place to live if I work in Durham or Burlington?
Mebane is a popular choice because it sits on I-40/85 between both cities, so the commute in either direction is manageable. It also offers a mix of newer subdivisions and established neighborhoods.
Do I need a real estate agent who specializes in first responders?
Not legally, but it helps. An agent who understands shift work, privacy concerns, and agency relocations can save you time and stress. I spent ten years on the job, so none of that needs explaining.
Do you work with first responders who are buying, not just selling?
Yes. I help first responders buy and sell, whether it is a first home, a move closer to your station, or a place to settle after retirement. The reduced listing fee applies when you list your home with me.
